Winter at Passo del Tonale

Passo del Tonale, at 1,883 metres below the Presena Glacier, is part of the Pontedilegno-Tonale ski area, which links Passo del Tonale, Ponte di Legno and Temù: the snow lasts a long time here and you can ski until spring. But winter in the mountains is not just skiing and snowboarding: snowshoe walks in the woods, cross-country skiing, concerts in the ice, activities for children and plenty of relaxation.

Before you leave, check the webcams to see the snow in real time, and the interactive piste map.

Skiing and snowboarding

About 100 km of slopes link Passo del Tonale, the Presena Glacier, Ponte di Legno and Temù, through woods, high-altitude views and the glacier. There are snowparks, ski schools and rental shops, and the ski bus connects the villages of the ski area.

On some evenings of the week you can also go night skiing: on the Valena slope at Passo del Tonale and on the Valbione slope in Ponte di Legno. Updated days and times on the night skiing page; ski pass prices and hours on the official website.

Snowshoeing

With snowshoes you can walk in fresh snow away from the slopes: between Valle Camonica and Val di Sole there are 17 routes covering over 120 km, through woods, around small lakes, to the Vermiglio waterfall or towards the Presena Glacier. Snowshoes can be hired from ski rental shops; for guided outings contact the mountain guides. Routes and contacts.

Cross-country skiing

A few minutes from the Pass is the Vermiglio Cross-Country Centre, with over 20 km of trails on 5 loops: the Laghetti trail (1.5 km) is floodlit in the evening until 11 pm. In Ponte di Legno there is the Valsozzine Cross-Country Centre, with 3 loops for beginners and experts and artificial snow. All the information.

Paradice Music: concerts in the ice

A unique experience: from January to April, at Passo Paradiso near the Presena Glacier, at about 2,600 metres, concerts are held inside an ice igloo-theatre, with instruments carved from ice: guitars, basses, strings and drums. Rock, pop, classical music and Italian and international artists. You get there with the Paradiso cable car from Passo del Tonale, then a walk of about 250 metres on a groomed slope. Programme and tickets on the Paradice Music website.

With children

For the little ones there are the snow playgrounds Fantaski, La Bruscadela and Tonale Mountain Centre (the newest one), with bobsleds, sledges, snow tubing and inflatables, plus the ski schools’ baby park. Family activities.

You can also go ice skating: at the indoor ice rink in Temù and, when it is cold enough, on the outdoor rinks in Ponte di Legno, Vermiglio (at the Cross-Country Centre) and Vezza d’Oglio. Opening times and contacts.
