House Tonale is in Trentino-Alto Adige, in the municipality of Vermiglio (Trento), in the well-known ski and holiday resort of Passo del Tonale. The village is literally crossed by the border between Lombardy and Trentino; our building is a few hundred metres from the border, close to the start of the ski slopes. Getting here is easy, by several means of transport.
By car
There are two possible routes:
1) A22 Brennero motorway: exit at San Michele all’Adige, take the main road past Cles to the Mostizzolo bridge, then the SS42 through the Val di Sole to Passo del Tonale.
2) A4 Milan–Venice motorway: exit at Seriate and take the SS42 following the signs for Lovere – Valle Camonica – Passo del Tonale.
Important: in winter, if you drive a diesel car, arrive near Passo del Tonale with a fairly empty tank and then fill up with winter (anti-freeze) diesel, such as “Artico” or equivalent, so that the fuel does not freeze in the tank when the car is parked, especially at night. You will find it at the petrol stations near Passo del Tonale and at high altitude. No problem for petrol or methane cars.
By train and bus
From Trento station take the train to Malè (Trento–Malè railway), then the bus to Passo del Tonale. From Brescia or Rovato Borgo take the train to Edolo, then the bus to Ponte di Legno and Passo del Tonale.
By plane
The nearest airports are Milan-Bergamo (Orio al Serio) and Verona, from where you can reach Passo del Tonale by shuttle bus.
